19.2019.21

Where Material Duality Becomes Timeless Sculpture in Light and Reaction

Product Description

Bocci 19.2019.21: A refined sculptural object that embodies the core philosophy of transformation — where familiar materials are allowed to reveal their hidden identities. This piece is part of the 19 series, born from Bocci’s ongoing investigations into metalwork off-casts, capturing the moment when controlled process meets natural behavior.

At its heart, 19.2019.21 unites two contrasting expressions of red brass:
  • Polished brass – mirror-like, luminous, carefully finished
  • Oxidized overspill – raw, textured, organically formed during casting
This deliberate tension between refinement and spontaneity creates a dynamic visual narrative — a dialogue between human intention and material instinct.

Each unit is cast in red brass, an alloy prized for its warm hue and plasticity, allowing it to hold both precise geometry and fluid imperfections. The casting method preserves the residual flows and surface reactions that occur naturally in the mold, turning them into permanent features rather than defects.

Available in three sizes based on inner diameter (ID):
  • S: Ø280 mm
  • M: Ø540 mm
  • L: Ø800 mm
Each scale offers a different presence — from intimate wall detail to commanding focal point — while maintaining the same formal language.

The piece can be displayed freestanding or mounted as a wall object, adapting seamlessly to residential interiors, galleries, or architectural installations.

Over time, the surface will naturally evolve. The polished areas will develop a soft patina, while the oxidized zones remain stable, preserving the contrast that defines the work.

Key Advantages & Features

  • Dual-Finish Design: Polished brass and oxidized overspill in one form
  • Red Brass Material: Warm tonality with high malleability and depth
  • Off-Cast Metalwork Technique: Embraces casting byproducts as aesthetic essence
  • Inner Diameter Sizing: S (Ø280 mm), M (Ø540 mm), L (Ø800 mm) – scalable impact
  • Natural Patina Development: Surface evolves over time, enhancing character
  • Tactile Contrast: Smooth polished vs. rough oxidized textures
  • Self-Supporting Structure: Can be displayed without additional hardware
  • Wall-Mountable Option: Versatile placement across environments
  • Low Maintenance Care: Dust regularly with lint-free cloth
  • Controlled Cleaning: Use copper polishing compound only on polished surfaces
  • Avoid Cleaner Contact with Oxidized Areas: Preserves textural integrity
  • Unique Character: Each piece varies slightly due to handcrafting process
  • Chronological Concept Number: 19.2019.13 reflects Bocci’s evolving design timeline
  • Sculptural Presence: Functions as art, object, and architectural accent
  • Material Authenticity: Celebrates inherent behaviors of metal under heat and time
  • Crafted for Longevity: Designed to age beautifully, not degrade

Why Bocci?

Bocci is a multidisciplinary design studio, research lab, and factory rooted in the design philosophy of Omer Arbel. Our work explores experimental production methods that allow materials to behave according to their inherent properties — revealing unexpected qualities in glass, metal, concrete, fire, electricity, and more.

At the core of our process is a system of numbered concepts. Each project receives a number in the order it was conceived, forming a chronological record of Arbel’s evolving ideas. This numbering system spans everything from architecture to archived experiments, published works, and ongoing projects.

It reflects an ongoing exploration where each piece contributes to a larger body of work defined not by style, but by curiosity, process, and discovery. In this way, design becomes an act of observation — where beauty emerges not through control, but through release.

Where metal breathes — art that changes with time, glows with memory, and turns matter into quiet revelation.
